This was quite a simple bowl, with only 2 toppings and 1 protein without a base. The colours of the items I picked didn’t make the bowl look particularly enticing, but it actually tasted much better than expected. The mushrooms were well seasoned, and the greek yogurt sauce was light. The chicken was also pretty tender.
Portion is rather small
It’s quite a small bowl at about 200-250g for $10.50.
110g Chicken Malai Tikka
70g Romaine Lettuce
30g Roasted Mushroom
~20g Greek Yogurt Sauce

SaladStop! and HEYBO are under the same parent company. Your online account for one store is linked to the other, i.e. you don’t have to create an account twice. Hence, I decided to group my review for both into one.

-The Review-
HEYBO and SaladStop are great options if you’re counting your macros because they both offer nutritional calculators on their websites, and even integrated it into their ordering platform so you can see how much calories your bowl will be with each item you add to your order (click “ingredients” if you are on mobile to view the nutrition facts while ordering your bowls).
HEYBO’s offerings are more flavourful
In gist, SaladStop! offers a simpler range of toppings that are either boiled, roasted, or raw. On the other hand, Heybo’s offerings are more complex. For example, the cauliflower rice at SaladStop! is plain, whereas Heybo’s cauliflower rice is mixed with lentils.
HEYBO Menu – Aug 2024
I prefer the Roasted Pumpkin Wedge at HEYBO over the Roasted Pumpkin cubes from SaladStop because I felt like the sweetness of the pumpkin was better retained. I also like that Brussel Sprouts and King Oyster Mushrooms at HEYBO come at no additional charge.
The oriental cabbage salad is my favourite side, it tastes like pickled cucumbers but mixed in with added textures from the blanched cabbage and some cut chilli. If you’re looking for steak (not offered by SaladStop!), the Char Grilled Steak (+$3.90) at HEYBO is lightly seasoned and grilled to a medium-well.
This bowl had 100g of steak!
Service standards are more consistent at HEYBO from my experience
There’s never been mistakes with my HEYBO order, and portion sizes have been very consistent. In contrast, SaladStop! once forgot my protein in my warm grain bowl. Additionally, the portion of each topping at SaladStop! depends on who is making your bowl.
They missed out on my protein for this order:(
HEYBO gives better hi value for your money
Pumpkin Dip in this bowl is my favourite dip option.
This is especially because protein like Sous Vide Chicken (which is very tender btw) do not come at an additional charge, and they do give a bigger portion of protein (about twice the amount of SaladStop!, from my experience).
TOTAL WEIGHT: ~480g • 132g Garden Greens • 95g Roasted Pumpkin Wedge • 58g Roasted Brussels Sprout • 50g Oriental Cabbage Salad • 107g Sous Vide Chicken Breast • 20g Purple Sweet Potato • 30g Tzatziki • 5g Radish Pickles

This is an indication of the flavours available. They do have some unique salad toppings to choose from, such as the baby octopus. They also nailed the Citrus Ponzu sauce, in fact I do believe that it is the best Ponzu of the salad bars I’ve been to.
It would have been even better if they stuck to the theme by offering Japanese Sweet Potatoes instead of the orange ones. Nonetheless, the sweet potato was cooked well.
Choose at least 3 veges as your “base”
Interestingly, they do not have a “base” for you to choose from. Instead, you create your own base by selecting 3, 4, or 5 vegetables depending on the size of the bowl. I thought the Pumpkin was pretty pleasant, and I like that they served it in wedges.
Lack of non-oily protein option
The Teriyaki Chicken Thigh appeared to be the least oily and hence I selected it. However, I still felt that it was rather greasy and would have preferred if they offered a non-oily protein option. If they are looking to stick to the Japanese theme, they could offer shabu chicken breast slices or even raw salmon/tuna.
Small Serving, but worth it’s price
The bowl added to about 350g, and for 144g of Chicken, $7.90 is quite a steal! Here is a breakdown of the bowl.
144g Teriyaki Chicken Thigh
48g Sweet Potato
24g Romaine Lettuce
78g Pumpkin
20g Edamame
10g Radish Pickles
25g Citrus Ponzu

Their standards have been very consistent since 2020
Ingredients are fresh, everything is seasoned well, and their warm bowls are quite comforting. There is nothing much to nitpick, especially since each bowl only costs $7.50.
Although I selected grilled chicken this time as it is the cheapest protein add-on (for a reliable comparison with other salad bars), their lemongrass chicken is actually my favourite protein add-on.
Protein portion is quite small
My bowl weighed around 250g, with 55g of grilled chicken. The price of additional protein is not too unreasonable (~$2-3), if you’re looking to increase your protein intake.
90g Romaine Lettuce
55g Grilled Chicken
23g Broccoli
30g Carrot
20g Beetroot
20g Celery
48g Pumpkin
65g Yuzu Citrus Soy

Make Your Own Bowl ($11, 1 protein, 2 base, 3 toppings, 1 crunch, 1 dressing)
[Protein] Buffalo Chicken Breast
[Base] Romaine Lettuce x2
[Toppings] Spicy Broccoli, Slow Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, Shaved Green Apples
[Crunch] Sourdough Crouton
[Dressing] Lemon Yogurt
-The Review-
Must Try: Spicy Broccoli & Lemon Yogurt Dressing
This broccoli was seasoned with a touch of mala spices. It was appetising and they managed to pull this off without making the broccoli too oily. If you love mala this is something you should order.
The Lemon Yogurt Dressing is also worth trying! It is very light and a very good palette cleanser. It balances out the mala spices in the broccoli very well.
Unfortunately, the sourdough croutons were soggy and lacked finesse.
Selecting Mixed Roasted Nuts for your crunch might be a safer choice.
Portion is decent
My bowl weighed around 550g, which is a lot of food for $11. However, it is worth noting that I was the last customer for the day and they might have given me a bigger portion than usual. Here is a breakdown of what’s in my bowl.
75g Romaine Lettuce
120g Buffalo Chicken Breast
90g Spicy Broccoli
160g Slow Roasted Tomatoes
60g Shaved Green Apples
16g Sourdough Crouton
35g Lemon Yogurt

Other information/Hacks: You can pre-order for self-collection on YQueue, which costs the same as purchasing the salad bowl in store. Ordering on other food delivery platforms are more expensive.
If OMNIVORE‘s queue is too long, Salad Story is about 3 stores away. They offer a simpler range of toppings that would fit your tastebuds if you’re looking for something light.
They could improve on their process for some of the cooked toppings
The boiled chicken was slightly tough. It would be better if they cooked the chicken at a lower temperature, or consider salting the meat for half an hour before cooking it.
The broccoli was on the slightly undercooked side.
The raw ingredients are fresh
Notwithstanding the above, I think their salad bowl is quite nice because of how fresh the raw ingredients are. Moreover, the Sweet Potato was cooked nicely. I’d like to give some of their other proteins a try as well.
Portion is decent
My bowl weighed around 490g, with about 135g of boiled chicken. For a $12.90 bowl this is quite a decent volume.
90g Romaine Lettuce
43g Baked Pumpkin
45g Beetroot
50g Broccoli
35g Shiitake Mushroom
55g Sweet Potato
135g Boiled Chicken
35g Wasabi Soy

-The Review-
Saw the negative reviews on Google and I wasn’t too excited about this bowl.
What I ordered wasn’t exactly what I received
I’m not sure if it was a mistake, or if they ran out of what I ordered, but chicken breast ended up being grilled chicken thigh (from which I removed the skin because I prefer leaner cuts). However, the “Kimchi beansprouts” in the menu was really just Kimchi.
The Wasabi Shoyu was more of a Wasabi-Sesame Oil-Shoyu mix, so if you’re trying to keep your calorie count low, this might be something you’d avoid.
Otherwise, it is actually quite a decent bowl.
The broccoli, edamame, and Japanese cucumber was fresh and up to standard. The bowl weighed around 270g, which is alright for its price since it comes with a free drink. Here is a weight breakdown –
110g Mixed Salad
53g Chicken
20g Kimchi
35g Broccoli
24g Edamame
13g Japanese Cucumber
15g Wasabi Shoyu

This charming salad shop is run by a mother-and-daughter duo who clearly have a deep passion for their food. I was particularly impressed by the mother’s dedication, as she made a genuine effort to remember each customer. She warmly chatted with a group of office-workers about “that guy” they were packing lunch for, showing her personal touch and commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Food tastes like home
There’s a comforting warmth to the food here. The way the mom casually mentions, “I need to check on my vegetables, give me a minute,” adds a special, personal touch that feels like a chef’s kiss. It’s easy to see why they were nearly sold out by 1 PM when I arrived.
Gochujang Vinaigrette was tasty!
I love the acidity that the vinegar adds to the Gochujang. However do note that this is an oily option, i.e. if you’re counting your calories the oil in this dressing would inflate the numbers.
Zucchini could be cubed
If I had any feedback, it would be that I prefer zucchini cubed rather than sliced to give it more bite. However, the zucchini was well-prepared and not overly mushy (this can happen with thinly sliced zucchini if it’s overcooked, which is definitely not the case here).
The serving is decent for its price
The bowl added to about 405g. For a $10.90 bowl I felt very satisfied. Here is a breakdown of the items in the bowl.
I was pleased to find that their toppings were not overly oily. This included the okra, which was cooked to perfection—retaining its crunch and avoiding excessive stringiness that could have overwhelmed the dish.
The raw toppings are exceptionally fresh; a glance at the bar reveals their vibrant colors and quality.
Dressing falls short
The Spicy Korean Dressing I selected tasted like Gochu with water. Would have been better with some acidity (e.g. they could add Korean Apple Vinegar). Would try a different dressing in future.
The chicken breast was average, bordering on the dry side.
Small Serving, but worth it’s price
The bowl added to about 286g, which is alright considering that the bowl is only $7.90. Here is the breakdown of the bowl.
35g Green Coral Base
68g Cajun Chicken Breast
26g Beetroot
37g Purple Cabbage
30g Okra
50g Pumpkin
40g Spicy Korean Dressing

This post deviates slightly from my usual focus on salad bars, but I felt it was worth highlighting Shake Salad. They’ve become my reliable alternative when salad bars are closed on weekends and public holidays.
You can find Shake Salads at most Cold Storage, Jason’s, FairPrice, or Cheers stores, and they also have vending machines scattered throughout Singapore.
For added convenience, you can order them online and have them delivered right to your door. Plus, online orders/vending machines offer the option to add extras like chicken breast to boost your protein intake.
Another standout feature is their excellent customer service. When I inquired about the nutritional information for their salads, they responded swiftly and thoroughly. If you’re tracking macros and need a quick, nutritious salad option, Shake Salad is definitely worth considering.
