It’s been a little while since we last spoke about Shake Salad, the convenient and nutritious on-the-go meal option that many of us rely on for tracking our macros. As you may recall from my previous article, Shake Salad was a lifesaver with its transparent nutritional information and wide availability.
The great news is that Shake Salad has expanded its lineup! I’ve been keeping a close eye on their offerings, and I’m excited to share the latest macros for their products. Whether you’re looking for a low-carb option or a high-protein boost, this article will help you navigate their new menu and make informed choices to meet your fitness goals.
Do note that the macros for some of their older products have also changed.
[Supplements] Mala Beansprouts, Japanese Sweet Potato, Smoked Pumpkin
[Protein] Pineapple Prawn, Mala Fish
[Dressing] Thai Lemongrass
-The Review-
I love it when salad bars make little tweaks to their menu, novelty really does go a long way to entice customers to come back. Especially for Grains&Co, I wanted to keep my tried-everything-on-their- menu status.
Mala fans can now satisfy your cravings at a salad bar
Two of my favourites, Korean Beansprouts and Cajun Fish are replaced with Mala Beansprouts & Mala Fish. I wasn’t surprised that both would taste nice because these are some of my preferred mala xiang guo ingredients too.
Prawns at no additional charge
For seafood lovers, Grains&Co brought back their prawn offering. The Pineapple Prawns share the same taste profile as ko lo yuk (sweet & sour pork). It is refreshing, and prawns are the perfect protein to go for if you’re looking for something light.
A new sauce!
My favourite thing on their new menu has to be the Thai Lemongrass dressing. Previously I felt that their dressings were too heavy, hence I tend to have my bowls without dressing. The Thai Lemongrass dressing elevates the bowl with a citrusy taste, without overpowering other ingredients. It’ll definitely be my go-to from now.
My favourite 3x Beansprouts order
I do hope that they update their website with the new menu and its relevant nutrition facts soon!

Hacks: Grains&Co has a new membership system where you key in your number into their tablet when you order in person. You can earn points to offset the price of your future meals.
You can still pre-order for self-collection on their website. Add in the code “20off” for 20% off ($10.32 per regular/gain bowl) your first order. You can also earn points to offset future meals, but note that this is a separate system from the one at the store.
Alternatively, Deliveroo would cost you $10.50 with self-pickup for Plus members, which is the cheapest option across delivery platforms.
I chanced upon this salad bar when I was grocery shopping at Marks & Spencer (Wheelock Place). It is right at the exit near the Kids’ section, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good this salad bar was.
Only salad shop that brines their chicken breast
This was my first experience with brined chicken breast at a salad bar, and I was genuinely impressed! Brining keeps the meat moist and tender, giving it a unique “Q” texture. After trying many similar-tasting chicken breasts from salad bars around Singapore, this one definitely stood out.
Their sides were also very well made.
The pickled cucumber had a homemade taste, thinly sliced and brined in white vinegar. It offered a refreshing contrast to the typical pickled gherkins found in many other places. The broccoli was perfectly cooked, and the sweet potato mash was smooth without being grainy, with some larger pieces of sweet potato adding a nice variety in texture.
A pretty generous portion
The bowl was about 400g, and they were quite generous with the amount of protein given. Here is a breakdown of the salad bowl.
[Sides] Grilled Pumpkin, Broccoli, Button Mushroom, Japanese Cucumber
[Dressing] Miso Ginger
-The Review-
If you’re looking for a salad bar over the weekend, Toss & Turn is a decent choice, with locations conveniently nestled within Cedele branches across Singapore. While there’s nothing very unique about their offerings, the freshness of their ingredients across their branches makes them a reliable choice. Plus, I do quite like their root vegetables.
Protein portion is rather small
It’s about 400g worth of food, but only about 70g of protein. Unfortunately, I did feel that the chicken breast was rather tough. Nonetheless, it is still a good place to go to if you’re looking for something clean, healthy, and accessible.
55g Romaine Lettuce
69g Roasted Chicken Breast
82g Grilled Pumpkin
52g Broccoli
52g Button Mushrooms
45g Japanese Cucumber
45g Miso Ginger

HEYBO launched some new menu items that are so great I decided to write another review (you can check out my previous review here).
New items on HEYBO’s menu (Sep 2024) – it would be great if they could update their macros
The new flavours really compliment each other.
The prawns are tender and refreshing, beautifully complemented by the Laksa Vinaigrette. The Bean Sprout Salad brings an extra layer of texture that elevates the entire dish. It’s like enjoying a healthier version of Laksa, without the guilt.
I’ve tried all their bases and personally I enjoy their cauliflower lentil rice the most.
Sometimes I opt for a lighter bowl featuring their garden greens, and I really appreciate the blend of arugula, lettuce, cabbage, and carrots. Every now and then, I also indulge in their Sweet Potato Noodles, which remind me of japchae!
The Bean Spout Salad has become my topping of choice
I love to pair it with a pumpkin wedge, Brussels sprouts, their cabbage salad, or sometimes mushrooms. The toppings are perfectly seasoned—just the right amount of flavor without being too salty. I often choose their Yuzu Soy dressing to tie it all together!

Create Your Own Box ($12.90, 1 base, 1 protein, 3 greens, 1 premium green, 2 sauce)
[Base] Shepherd Salad
[Protein] Kebab Chicken
[Greens] Purple Cabbage, Cucumber, Pickles
[Premium Green] Beetroot
[Sauces] Garlic Yogurt, Baba Ganus
They forgot my beetroot this time so it isn’t captured but it doesn’t usually happen and is definitely a one-off incident. Moreover Grab refunded me $3 for this.
-The Review-
This is my favourite place to go to for middle eastern flavours. Once you’ve tried Patrons’, other middle eastern salad bars in Singapore just doesn’t seem to quite cut it.
All protein options are great!
I have tried both their Kebab Chicken and Sautéed Beef Cubes. Both are very flavourful, yet not too salty. The chicken is juicy. What’s most surprising is that unlike other middle eastern salad bars, the beef here is very tender, juicy, and not gamey at all (this is coming from someone who doesn’t actually like beef so beef kebab is often too gamey for my liking, but I ordered it one day when I found out I was anaemic).
The middle eastern sauces are also very tasty
Baba Ganus (eggplant), Garlic Yogurt, and Hummus are my go-to. They got the flavours right and these are items I would always order again.
Only criticism I have is the packaging
If I had any complaints, is that while the box is cute, there are often leakages, especially since they serve their sauces inside the bowl and do not offer a separate sauce packaging option. Perhaps it would be great if they can consider boxes with separate lids so that the food is more secure.
Super generous portion
It’s a very filling bowl, coming in at about 600g for just $12.90. The amount of meat they give is also very generous. Even with missing beetroot, I was very satisfied.
300g Kebab Chicken
40g Pickles
40g Purple Cabbage
30g Cucumber
180g Shepherd Salad
~30g Sauces (unable to weigh accurately)

[Base] Mixed Greens, Sweet Potato
[Protein] Mixed Herb Chicken Breast
[Add Ins] Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Maple Roasted Pumpkin, Mala Cauliflower
[Topping] Gherkins
[Dressing] Yuzu Lemon
-The Review-
I really like the minimalist packaging used. It is dainty, holds the items well without any spillage/without my food messing up during transport, and perfect for eating on-the-go as it fits nicely in my palm.
Most of the items I ordered on grab were unavailable.
Note that I made my order at around 11AM, which means that the items are more likely to be unavailable/not ready instead of sold out. I was informed through Grab’s chat that the mala cauliflower is unavailable, and they agreed to swop it with broccoli.
However, I was surprised when I opened my bowl at home, the Pumpkin, Brussels Sprouts, and Gherkin were also unavailable. Instead, they were swopped for Sourdough Croutons and Edamame (both of which are high in fats – something I was trying to keep to a minimum). I was also not given a topping replacement. [Side note: I wrote in and received a $9 refund via Grab].
It would be better if they could mark those items as “unavailable” on the app so that there would be no surprises.
Items were dry.
The herbed chicken breast was overcooked and difficult to bite into. The sweet potatoes were overly dry (they likely baked it without giving it a chance to steam after baking, which can be done by roasting the Sweet Potatoes to a 70% doneness and covering it in a bowl). In addition, the sourdough croutons were oily, and overall I really needed a drink after this bowl.
The Yuzu Lemon Dressing did help with the dryness. It contained a minimal amount of oil and I would say that it is the most enjoyable item in my bowl.
Portion is small for its price
It’s quite a small bowl at about 340g for $16. However, I would say that the incorrect items makes the bowl more unsatisfying than its size.
20g Lettuce
96g Sweet Potato
46g Broccoli
34g Sourdough Croutons
40g Edamame
79g Chicken Breast
25g Yuzu Lemon Dressing

The Daily Cut’s new fall menu started in early September, and I am happy to see that they are serving my favourite salad toppings – brussels sprouts and pumpkin. They also do have some very creative offerings like the Thai Basil Tofu (a vegetarian rendition of Kra Pow) which goes very well with brown rice.

Newly improved chicken breast
They used to serve their chicken breast in cubed form and it didn’t retain its moisture as well. I’m glad to say that besides improving on their beef since the last time I tried it, they also made changes to their chicken breast. They now serve it in long strips, and it does taste better!

Updated macros available
The Daily Cut is the only salad bar that is very prompt with updating their macros calculator. It is already filled with items from their new menu. This time round, the dressing with the lowest calories would be the Ginger Ponzu.

[Toppings] Beetroot, Celery, Cucumber, Green Apple, Baked Mushrooms
[Premium Topping] Broiled Chicken (+$1.50)
[Dressing] Lemon Zest
-The Review-
A salad bar in a hawker centre is definitely the answer for calorie counting individuals who feel uneasy about consuming the standard local food offerings. This was a very satisfying bowl, especially one that is so budget friendly.
Favourite item: Baked Mushrooms
The baked mushrooms is something I would order again – it comes in a mix of Shimeji and Shiitake mushrooms, lightly seasoned in a way that allows you to taste the natural sweetness of the mushrooms.
Besides that, the ingredients were fresh – they only leave small portions on display at any point in time and you can see them replenishing the toppings consistently as they run out.
Protein add-on costs only $1.50
They have a range of protein for you to choose from. At about 450g, it is a very value-for-money bowl that only cost me $8.40. Plus, if you wanted to add on a second portion of protein it would still cost you less than $10!
80g Broiled Chicken
70g Romaine Lettuce
53g Cucumber
42g Baked Mushrooms
85g Beetroot
43g Green Apple
46g Celery
~20g sauce (I did not manage to weigh this properly as it was drizzled into the bowl)
Salad Co.Sg Menu – Sep 2024 | Side Note: It’s better to check the display window for what’s available, during my visit they served bell peppers but that is not listed on the menu.

This was quite a simple bowl, with only 2 toppings and 1 protein without a base. The colours of the items I picked didn’t make the bowl look particularly enticing, but it actually tasted much better than expected. The mushrooms were well seasoned, and the greek yogurt sauce was light. The chicken was also pretty tender.
Portion is rather small
It’s quite a small bowl at about 200-250g for $10.50.
110g Chicken Malai Tikka
70g Romaine Lettuce
30g Roasted Mushroom
~20g Greek Yogurt Sauce
